I heart my team.

We won.

Against Australia.

Let me repeat that..

Against Australia.

As in they lost and we won. As in we beat them. As in we are going into the final, and they are going home. As in we were better than them this match. AS in we were amazing. As in we were fantastic.

Ok I think I made my point :)

Also..

Well played, Yuvraj!

Phase 1 Down.. 2 to go!

So I finished my first set of exams on Friday. The next set will be in January and then my finals in *gulp* March.

I dislike commenting on how my papers went, since my answer will invariably be held against me either at that time, or later! However, I did figure out that one of the secrets to writing an ISC exam is to actually write everything you know about a particular topic, regardless of if you have actually finished answering the question.

(Does that make sense?)

Oh I expect I should say something about this.
Well I don’t really know what to say. Disappointment? Sure. But then I guess he is one of those people who cannot function at all without without being comfortable with his situation himself. So if this is what makes him happy, then I’m sure it was the right decision to make.

Oh and on Friday, I gave in to temptation and bought one of those smiley-faced yellow stress balls :

But I know, deep down, it’s only a matter of time before my dog discovers its existence no matter how well I hide it in the desk drawer.

Sigh. Life is harsh.

What can I say..

.. there’s just been so much happening!

Currently, I have mid-term exams going on. Not fun, but since when were exams ever fun? To add to it all, I spent three hours trying to write my Sociology paper sniffling and sneezing like crazy – the sickness cometh :(

Otherwise, things are great :)

I shall update as soon as I can !

At the stroke of the midnight hour..

when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom

Last night I was watching BBC Entertainment, and there was this pretty interesting programme on as part of an Independence Day Special called The Last Days of The Raj. Now since I’m actually studying the Freedom Struggle, it caught my interest and it definitely helped me understand things better as the details of the Freedm Struggle can be a bit overwhelming to study. I’m hoping to watch as many of these documentary type things as possible before I write my exam next month !

Anyway, I decided to read up on the speech Nehru made when India was granted independence, and it struck me that much of what he said in that speech still applies to this country today. One thing that stood out for me is this :

The future beckons to us. Whither do we go and what shall be our endeavour? To bring freedom and opportunity to the common man, to the peasants and workers of India; to fight and end poverty and ignorance and disease; to build up a prosperous, democratic and progressive nation, and to create social, economic and political institutions which will ensure justice and fullness of life to every man and woman.

I can’t decide if the common man today has all the freedom and oppurtunity that he is entitled to. The burden of poverty, ignorance and disease still remains heavy on the nation, although I firmly believe that we are a progressive nation.

The whole text of the speech can be found here

:)

Well, the end of an aggressive Test there which India won deservedly. Particular credit must go to Zaheer Khan, for his nine wickets, who is the Man of the Match, while Sachin Tendulkar made 91. So, India take a 1-0 lead and there are plenty of celebrations on the balcony and on the pitch. Ganguly raises his bat as he walks off, and the India team come down the steps now to shake hands with England. After the draw at Lord’s – where they had a let-off as England were closing in on the win – India now take a 1-0 lead into the third and final Test at The Oval.

Dude, Where’s My Lake?

Its amazing when you don’t realize how important something is until something happens to it.

No, I’m not talking about some love story gone wrong. I’m talking about this.

For me, this lake is an important part of the monotonous journey I make to and fro school everyday. No matter how my day has begun, just seeing the lake for a brief few seconds has always made things better. There’s just something about the way the water glistens in the sun, completely oblivious to the heavy traffic on the flyover. Its just always been AROUND. Even after the cleaning and whatever they did to it some years ago, its always had its own identity. For me, its been a symbol of freedom. That maybe Bangalore hasn’t changed so much like people say it has. That this city still retains some of its environmental morality, if theres such a thing. That we aren’t a conscience-less, soul-less, heart-less group of people.

“Under the terms of the PPP, EIH can use the lake for 15 years on payment to the LDA of Rs. 72 lakh a year with an annual escalation of 1.5 per cent of this sum. Besides a floating restaurant, the lake shore will have a cafeteria, a children’s park, a handicrafts and gift centre, a waterfall and a statue, and a medical centre, all developed for Rs. 16 crore. The lake will be fenced and an entrance fee of Rs. 20 charged. It is expected to attract 2,000 visitors a day.”

Just dandy.

Oh and just so you know,we’re destroying the habitat of nearly 30 species of birds (including Sandpipers, Ducks, Coromants and Clovers ) so that the project can serve as an “avenue for recreation” and “keep the place clear of slums”. So that guests at a lake hotel can gaze at a pretty lake. Of course, theres that minor point off people like farmers, fishing communities, cattle herders, washermen, and casual workers not being able to make use of the lake anymore.

Completely fair compromise don”t you think?

And it’s just perfectly fitting that as I type this blog entry, a tree is being semi-killed outside my house.

Time

Cover yourself up in me,
Shrouded in what could have been.
I will listen to your pain,
if you listen to me.

– “Story” by Maroon 5

People say time heals everything. And when people said that, I would scoff. How can letting go or staying away or running away possibly have a comfortable solution to anything? I always firmly believed that when you have an argument with someone, its always best to sort things out then and there. Basically, the idea is to not let the moment go. When things are are still fresh, when the pain still hurts..

But then I realized that sometimes its just best to let things go. Maybe sometimes its a better idea to give yourself some space. Let yourself give other things a chance and maybe, just maybe, things might look a bit better.

Perspective always makes a difference. And time..

It does heal.

Makes Me Wonder

I’ve been listening to Maroon 5′s latest album “It Wont Be Soon Before Long” and I really have to say that I’m loving every track! “Makes Me Wonder” is an amazing song that lifts your spirits up no matter what mood you’re in anytime you listen to it. When I first heard “Wont Go Home Without You”, I thought it sounded pretty much like their hit song “She Will Be Loved” from the album “Songs About Jane”, but the start is deceiving, as the two are quite different. The song is one of the slower ones on the album.

Adam Levine’s vocals are awesome on every song.

Yeah, I really love the band :p

BLAH.

I’ve been having those blah weeks/days lately.

Must be the weather. But that’s horrible because I love this weather. It’s all nice and dark and depressing (yes, my father says I’m morbid person and I agree). But it seems to be doing not-so-good things to my life.

I tried doing some creative writing (voluntarily not part of school work or anything), and I simply cannot write anything I am even remotely satisfied with. And it’s not even like I have really high standards. This in turn leads to me to question my career as a future journalist because if I can’t write on demand then I’m pretty much.. toast.

Plus I have this horrible half-Flu thing that makes me tired but not sick enough that I have to stay in bed all day long. I tried studying, but that didnt work (when does it ever). I tried reading a novel, but I got bored.

BLEH. Life better get exciting soon.

I did take some pictures of my highly photogenic puppy dog at my photoblog.

PS: Scotland weather sucks.
